The actual LiveBlog replay above has over 5,300 words in it, so I won’t even attempt to restate the entirety of this teaching. However, here are just a few points that will hopefully whet your appetite and encourage you to read the entire entry:
- The gospel of Jesus is the great work of God through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in which He removes every obstacle to your full and everlasting and all satisfying enjoyment of his glory and in which he displays the most beautiful portrait of that glory. That is my definition of the gospel.
- The guilt and the burden of sin cannot be an obstacle of our joy. It’s on JESUS. If we let it become an obstacle; we dishonor the Blood; we say it’s inadequate. It’s not inadequate. It’s totally adequate.
- You have tastebuds on your soul’s tongue; they were made to lick the lollipop of the gospel.
- When Christ died, he stripped Satan of his armor. The only weapon Satan has is the accusation of unforgiven sin. If Satan can go before the bar of God and say, “Her sins aren’t forgiven; she’s mine.” But if at the cross, every sin was covered, then his mouth is shut. He has no weapon anymore.
- Christ did not just make our joy possible; he became the supreme object of our joy in the gospel.
- God removes everything that would make your happiness fail; gives you everything that would make your happiness full. I plead with you—cut off your hands if you have to; until you find yourself sweetly and deeply resting in the all-satisfying glory of God in Christ Jesus.
