Tim Keller: On the Mountain – The Terrifying and Beckoning God (The Gospel Coalition National Women’s Conference LiveBlog)

Here is a picture of Pastor Keller teaching this session:
The actual LiveBlog replay above has over 5,700 words in it, so I won’t even attempt to restate the entirety of this teaching. However, here are just a few points that will hopefully whet your appetite and encourage you to read the entire entry:
- In general, Gospel Coalition did not bring women to talk and think about women, but to talk and think about God.
- For many of you, if you admit it, you’re further away from what you wanted God to give you. God seems to be taking you in an opposite direction; away from where he says he’s going to take you; you give yourself to him and things get worse.
- Can you imagine his followers looking up and saying, “I don’t see what good God could bring from THIS.” But WE know that unless Christ goes through the cross and death and the resurrection, God can’t put things right.
- So often, grace goes through the desert.
- You’ll never understand the Bible unless you understand the order: grace, obedience, and THEN blessing.
- God has the audacity to say: You are my treasured possession, jewel; I delight in you; and I want you to obey so that we can treasure each other.
- When the gospel gets the human ego sorted by humbling it into the dust (you are a sinner) and affirming it to the skies (child of the King) … it just shuts up the ego. Shuts it up. Stops all the whining.
